: I'm blue too. I missed the our date Saturday and Church today, I just want to feel better. I know school is starting this week - but let's try to get together just us girls and do something, uh -girlish. This time no pajamas, ok? Ok Nancy time to put on your thinking cap and figure out cheap and fun. Go!

~I know you werent talking to me when you're talking about getting together, but I just wanted to suggest this, especially thinking if the building has to go, but if ya'll continue to meet on Sundays in the living room and continue that way as a church, well as a consolation to OMAS being gone yall could do this:

Happy New Year from Covivant Gallery!

Before we move into a new year full of new shows and new faces, I would like to mention my appreciation for the support by both contributing artists and patrons in 2003. Covivant's New Yearıs resolution is to continue to support local art, alternative programming, and progressive ideas. One progressive idea that is now in the working is the administrative addition to Covivant, Tim Warner (a.k.a. Li'l Cheese). Who's Tim? Some of you may know Tim Warner as the lead singer of Chariot, or the local urban pop artist from "Budget Thugs", or just the only person I know that uses public transportation in Tampa. Tim is also the new Assistant Director of Covivant, and will be a great attribute to our growing art community. Welcome Tim!

Upcoming exhibitions to attend in 2004:

January 10-February 8: "Soap Box" and "Surfacing"

In the Main Room, Gerald Habarth and Chris Deacon will be exhibiting their multi-media show "Soap Box". Gerald Habarth is a filmmaker and animator who makes short animations assembled from digital images of drawings and paintings, photographed over the course of their development, which reveals to the viewer not only a completed piece of work, but also the process leading up to a finished piece. Chris Deacon combines the techniques of drawing and painting into what he calls "Dremel drawings". Primarily working on wood, he removes areas of stain to reveal the raw wood beneath. Both artists create works that suggest narratives of an allegoric nature, addressing common human themes, and will be showing side by side in the Main Room.
In the Stoop, "Surfacing" an exhibition of recently completed drawings and installation work by conceptual artist Meg Mitchell. The impetus for the new work comes from the artist's recent interest in Tibetan Buddhism, and the struggle that comes from addressing timeless themes with contemporary feminist iconography with an intense focus on detail and form.

Opening Reception: January 10, 8pm-12am
Suggested Donation: $5 ($2 for students)

February 20-March 28: "Heartswork"

"Heartswork" is an exhibition of San Francisco bay area artists Tiffany Bozic, Paul Urich, and Chris Duncan, who visually respond to the themes in several written works by poet Rainer Maria Rilke. Beginning in the summer of 2003, these three artists will bring "Heartswork" to several galleries around the country to create collaborative installations on the subjects of the process of living, the cycle of life, and finding beauty in death all themes which already exist in their work. Each installation will be different from the next, and will reflect the personal process of traveling, contemplating, exploring, and creating. This exhibition will include a collaborative component with students from The Prodigy Program at the University Area Community Center.

More shows of 2004 will be posted on our website soon.
