you know, tonight was strange. i encountered a friend who i hadn't talked to in years. he used to seem quite laid back and open but now i guess had become quite rigid and controlling throwing bible verses around like a judge w a verdict. anyway, tonight in the presence of some new folks he introduced me to, he began plowing into me about some odd notion about religion he had. it was ashame. the whole thing fell apart very quickly. i asked if he wanted me to leave him and his friends. instead he flew off the handle and left himself, leaving me w all his friends. it was weird because he kept talking about how he didn't like labels yet wanted to reword everyone's statements for them when they spoke. later, i relaized he was expecting everyone to live up to there lofty ideals and wouldn't accept them where they were at. my problem is that i agreed w his ideals but that i knew none of us could ever live up to them all perfectly. i guess i realized that in order for us to get to the top of a mountain we need to allow ourselves every step in between the base of the mountain and the summit. if you don't allow those steps toward the goal you'll never acheieve it. this whole thing made me sad. i just hope that i don't steal people's step from them when they are trying to get to the summit.
