: PD, I've known Jonvon for close to 20 years now and I know that one of his oldest fantasies was to have some kind of machine that talks to him constantly. I think perhaps it would be possessed by some sort of ancient spirit. Anyway, he likes that stuff. I think he just read too much Burroughs.

: Hasta luego, Bill

i actually find that machines talking to me are usually quite annoying. i'm pretty sure you are right, bill, but maybe i've changed my mind. i'm trying to remember that conversation. machines that talk to you with some sort of real context, now that would be interesting. you know, something that really approaches a human like / turing kind of conversation. it turns out that when people are interacting with computers they usually prefer silent modes of interaction. you can get a lot more done in a shorter amount of time with a keyboard and mouse than you can with voice commands, for instance.

one thing i am interested in though along these lines is language. generating language constructs programatically, maybe with AI or something. not sure. i'd like to be able to write a program that generates poetry. but specificaly poetry that is like the kind of poetry that i would tend to write. randomly generate something that is similar to what i would write, given perhaps some sort of starting input. offload a piece of my consciousness.

something like that.
