: I talked with a friend of mine yesterday regarding worship and what is acceptable to God. He said that unless you have all five of the following: preaching, communion, financial giving, singing, and prayer your worship is not pleasing to God. Above that, he said that the only time it is acceptable to worship God is on the first day of the week. He pull scriptures from John, Corinthians, I and II Thesalonians, Matthew and I and II Peter. He gave the examples of where it says that the Disciples came together on the first day to worship and that is why we need to do it then. I asked about the other days of the week and he said there are not examples of it in the bible so we cannot do it on any other day. So I gather that we cannot worship God except on the first day of the week. Sounds strange to me.

: Here are some other things he said:

: When Jesus said that he gave Peter the keys to heaven and the power to bind and loose things on earth, and they will be bound or loosed in heaven that means that the disciples can determine what is right and wrong (or what is necessary to get into heaven) and therefore you can only do what you know they have done and nothing more. Which led to the next comment:

: Worship with instruments are forbidden because there are no examples of it in the new testament, and the Mosaic law was done away with so the examples in the old testament cannot be used (I.E david dancing in the street with the various musicians). He said "how do you KNOW God was pleased with David's worship?", because after all it doesn't say and if it doesn't say we need to assume it means it was not acceptable. I figured that God was pleased because he called David a man after his own heart. If that is not a true worhipper (a man after God's own heart), who is? He said that there is a scripture that says that God is not worshipped with anything made from mans hand, as if he needed anything. He used that to say that a guitar is made with mans hand and therefore is unacceptable to bring to worship. If you do, God will not be pleased with your offering of worship. He cited Cain and Able as well saying that God required them to bring the firstfruits of their labor (which really meant a lamb because that was the correct instrument for sacrifice in that day) and since Cain brought fruits and vegetables his offering was rejected. He tied that to my question by saying Cain brought what he thought God wanted and God was displeased and since I'm bringing a guitar to worship I'm bringing what I think is acceptable and will have the same displeasure from God that Cain had.

: I need to reconcile this because there is a real conflict going on in my mind. I love Jesus with all I have. I make mistakes and sometimes on purpose because I'm an idiot. I love music. I cannot see myself not being able to use it to worship God.

: Can we please talk about this.

Rob,

I don't know you but whoever told you this is a religous idiot, using the referance just to David, should I go sleep with someone's wife and have them murdered to cover it up, then I will have a heart after God's. Tell them to go to a mosk or find something else that is more credible, Keep serving the Lord, in Spirit and in truth, not in that crap you were told by this person, they neede a spiritual enema and need to refer them to www.demonslayer.com I'm sure that we really enlighten them. Sarcasm aside, pray for them, they need it!
