I think you are on the right track. There are contexts and methods which are appropriate to the classroom or lecture hall which will break down when applied to everyday life. The biggest error of modern science is that it has left it's proper sphere and become puffed up with a false view of itself and it's role. I know this is tantamount to heresy among those whose official dogma is that one day science will answer every question, solve every mystery and finally penetrate the last dusty pocket of the universe. Still, I feel that such a view falls somewhere between that of the spoiled child and of the maniac. Real science is honest, self-critical and does not presume to judge or solve all of life. I'm glad for teachers who use the light of knowledge to serve mankind and not to enslave it.
