But there's been instances where "straight" people flatly denied to me any attraction to the same sex(I had this continuum in mind), but I continued to wonder whether we (they) just don't want to admit it, (they were women, and I suspect there would be many more men that wouldn't want to admit it), since as you state here, only %4 fall at either poles according to this research.

Marcos, like you pointed out, I think most people are somewhere in the middle of Kinsey's scale. I think fear keeps us from discussing it sometimes. I know I've met tons of straight men who later confided in me that they had felt attractions toward men. Now, here I don't necessarily mean sexual attractions, but just a desire to be close to another man. This, in fact, might be a case of the diminished friendships of men in our day and age. There was a time when a community of men was available no matter where one lived. Perhaps some of what people call homosexuality has more to do with this kind of need for male comraderie. Sorry, I can't say too much for women here, since I haven't had as much experience or dialogue w them. But from a man's point of view, I think a huge percentage of what attracts men to 'gay culture' is not a desire for sex but perhaps for contact with other men. One guy I know and love smack in the middle of Kinsey's scale but only dates women. I think that is cool. He isn't in denial but he's still making the choices which he feels he can make for religious reasons. Good for him. I think most people are leaning more to one side than the other though.
