John 14:6 says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father but by me." This has been interpreted by Christianity as an exclusive salvation for those who actually know the name of Jesus and his story and reject all other truth. That of course excludes billions who do believe in the righteousness of God and his mercy toward humans, and have prayed for it. It also excludes all those who do not know who Jesus really is because Christians have so misrepresented him and used Him for such evil gains. I cannot accept the conservative exclusivist interpretation of this verse anymore, nor is it in harmony with Jesus' other teachings, IMO. I have written a lot on this topic, including the true nature of salvation and what it means to believe in Jesus and believe "in His name" but I unfortunately do not have time to revisit it here. Maybe I will in a couple weeks. I just had to register a quick response, though, as this is a very important subject to me.
