when i say misfits, i mean people who refuse to conform to the status quo just for mainstream acceptance, and sometimes do things just to spite it, like wear striped pants with a plaid shirt. let the status quo conform, it always does.
I'm ok with that. i liked blue jeans and flannels since i was a little kid, so i guess i was in style for a couple of years. It really made no difference to me. It certainly didn't make me feel any better or worse about myself that other people were dressing like me. But some people seek acceptance by society, and want to wear whatever the fasion police say is in style this year, and you know what, thats cool too. I wish more people were more secure in themselves to allow themselves the opportunity to be creative, but i guess everybody is different, and for some people that means being the same. whatever. i am at a point where i care even less about appearance than ever. professionaly, i'm a construction worker, a glorified laborer at best. The only reason i even shave or make any attempt at some form of refinement of image is for my wife. It makes her happy and that is enough. Other than that, it dosen't matter. If someone wants to judge me as they're flying past the jobsite, good for them. I hope it makes them feel better about themself. If someone looks into my window at home...it's my house. if they don't like what they see, they shouldn't look.

by the way, I do get dressed still when we have company, for anyone who hasn't seen me in a while and was thinking of visiting. (snicker)

: Actually, you said it all with the comment on tolerance. Regardless of what is inborn or learned, we are not justified to treat people unfairly because of it. I think there's a big difference in recognizing how we differ and in using that as a means of belittling or discriminating. Too bad most mainstreamers opt for that 'eliminate differences' tack, instead of just saying, "wow you look different, but I must look just as strange to you. I respect that." I guess that's the fallen world. Every good thing gets perverted.

: I'm emailing other info, I don't like posting too much specific personal info.

: BTW who says WE'RE misfits? TV? Pop culture? I got one finger for that;) I'll claim the losers anyday. We're in good company...whores and taxcollectors man!

:
: : yeah, but the fact that we fit in with the misfits says it all.

: : I didn't realize the reasoning behind why politicians are always beardless. I know they gave Al Gore a hard time when he grew his out. Complete foolishness. Most of the founding fathers had big bushy beards or moustaches or more likely huge sideburns.

: : Funny how time changes the status quo as far as appearance and such.

: : but back to the goofy thing, I'm pretty certain that whether nature or nurture, I've been cast to be at least a little off skew, and I'm ok with that. In fact, sometimes I rather enjoy it. Every once in a while I get a little irritated with other people's lack of tolerance, but whatever.

: : so anyway, how are Kathy and Kale (or is it Cale, i kan't remember)?

: : Oh! send me your mailing address. If it wouldn't be too much trouble there is something I'd like to see if you can find for me.

: : : Then again, in certain circles, we both fit right in, so that sort of blows all our conjecture right out of the water anyway doesn't it.
