This is also the location where many believe Jesus was baptized by John in John 1:28. Although the exact location of "Bethabara beyond the Jordan" is uncertain, there are ruins of a village close to this point that some scholars think may be Bethabara. Bethabara means "House of the Crossing." This may be the same ford referred to Judges 7:24 as Bethbara. Pilgrims come from all over the world to be baptized here.
