: Pardon the long delay on your emails. They require T I M E to digest, of course, and I haven't had any yet. But I know you are a patient sort of savage islander. Just keep knawing on that holy bone and rutting around in the dirt and I'll send a chopper soon.

no pardon necessary...

you remember that ghost busters movie? for some reason lately i keep returning to a particular metaphor. they had those, um, accelerator things that shot those energy streams into the air, and they used them to catch the ghosts. remember, what was his name, Ivan? saying, DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS!

i think a lot of times email or message board threads are like that, where everyone is shooting up these streams all the time. sometimes we catch stuff in the air, sometimes we just fry the ceiling. most of the time we are sort of talking past each other. i say what i want to say, loosely based on what someone else said. sometimes i do respond directly to something. when i respond directly i am CROSSING THE STREAMS! and this is often something i must take caution with, as i would rather not cause any thermonuclear reactions. i almost prefer to just riff off of what someone else said and just say my own thing. ya know? its more like being in a band, playing some kind of jazz, some sort of highly improvisational form where someone just lays down a theme and then everyone GOES.

not that that has anything to do with anything in particular. but i feel that with long missives concerning certain islands and savages and abyssal unknowings and nouses and holy bones, its all just jazz. its just riffing without compunction, without expectation. whatever thing happens that is good is good. it's musical, it's beautiful, it's surprising.

and stuff like that. :-)
