: : I heard that today is National Housewife Day...one of those obscure days of national recognition. But I wanted to take the opportunity to honor my wife for giving up her outside job and limiting her interests to take care of our son and to manage our household affairs full time. This is a big job and it is largely thankless. To make matters worse, our culture tends to devalue this role. I'm sure you've heard people say, "I don't want to stay home I want to DO something with my life." Well the choice to take care of a family and household is far from doing nothing and I want everyone to know how much I appreciate my wife doing this. I know how hard it is and I love her for having the strength to do it.

: love this post John.

: my wife is not only staying home, she is going to home school roan. i'm going to do as much as i can with her as well. we are VERY EXCITED about this! it feels like a whole new world is opening up to us. i think people were meant, in a congenital sense, to be Together in families. we are much too isolated in our culture.

Sorry I missed this post buried down in the line. I agree about people meant to be in families. I know some people don't feel that way, but I hate being away from my family. Even to go to work...I sit alone doing what in the end is really meaningless stuff and think how did we as people find this to be better than living and working in small communities where we were bonded and could see how we really depend on each other. Plus there's something to be said for the simultaneous bond formed by working together and developing emotional ties. I know I have felt so connected to people I worked with at jobs where we physically pulled together to do the work but in that process could talk and know each other. If this could happen among people who were so unlikely to ever associate on any other level, I can imagine that working with/around people we truly care about would be so much greater.

As for home-schooling Roan, Id like to tell you that my mother runs a sewing school that caters to home-school kids...families and coops are always looking for enriching activities for home-schoolers. If you're interested I could connect you.
