: : : : : It was a dark day. The world was closing.
: : : : : There stood the exploding musical grandmaster.
: : : : : Everything was bending in on itself.
: : : : : Start up the band.

: : : : : Hidden like a mummy in forgetfulness
: : : : : Hidden like the afikomen.
: : : : : Uncreated Light.
: : : : : Awaits to break forth.

: : : : : Entrancements of owls kindly beckoned
: : : : : To provide a hidden channel
: : : : : Over the luminous ripples
: : : : : Down in phosphorus caverns.

: : : : : Nothing is starkly written
: : : : : In powder under fingernails
: : : : : And screechings of bone on steel
: : : : : The words are like oil on my head.

: : : : : Guardians with lanterns
: : : : : Turning to whisper
: : : : : Stood witness to the entrance
: : : : : Of fools into wisdom.

: : : : Is there more? This sounds like the opening of a terrific (in both senses of the word) epic. I want more! I'm hooked.

: : :
: : : Wow, thanks John. It is just a document of where i'm at right now. I'm sure there will be more, as there always is more. The story just keeps unfolding and we are all part of it.

: : Seriously, I would love to read more. I'm at a place right now where something dreamy and echoing reality and deftly written so even the very sounds of the words help weave the story is really a good thing. I'm reminded of reading Coleridge and Pushkin and others that I can't remember. If you get inspired to continue this please post or just send it to me directly.

: Thanks for your interest. I'm not writing any stories at present. Those were just little nuggets that popped into my head one night. I do have a few writing projects that I have been meaning to work on though and I hope to begin at least one of those in the spring. These have nothing to do with the stuff I wrote above though. Most of the images in what I wrote above hearken back to recent dreams I had.

: You know, one day I'd love to put DREGS PUBLISHING or something like it back together, but I'm sure that was alot of work for you and not many takers. Still, I liked the idea of having master copies of all our works. I actually still have the copies of your essays and stories and I read them from time to time.

Dregs...that's funny because I was just recently looking at that stuff after moving. I was cleaning out boxes and had all but forgotten some of that stuff. I found sketches, poems, journal entries, letters, stuff from a time that feels like a lifetime ago. And a lot of it wasn't mine! At risk of sounding all mushy, it feels like I've lived a whole lot more in the last 10 years than I had in the 20 before it. Anyway, Dregs was a good idea I think, but bombed miserably. Too much work, no outlets, the usual story. I think for that concept of publishing to work it would have to be tied to something that already had an outlet, like an existing record label or artist who had a fanbase that would take it in. That's how it worked for Henry Rollins. He used the Black Flag fanbase to jump into his more artisitc endeavors and funded it through commercial modeling until it became self-sustaining. But the fact is we just ain't pretty enough for modeling, and no one really cares what we say anyway. We're the Dregs, man.
